Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer

Example: Heating water on a stove.

  • Detail: When the stove heats the bottom of the pot, thermal energy transfers to the water via conduction. As the water molecules gain energy, their kinetic energy increases, raising the temperature of the water until it reaches boiling point. The laws of thermodynamics describe how energy is conserved and transformed.
